With the Rotary International theme “Rotary Opens Opportunities”, Leody “Odie” F. Tarriela, District 3810’s Incoming Governor looks forward to a promising year as he gears up to lead and propel the District to further growth and effective service.
Overwhelmingly chosen by 120 Rotary Clubs from Manila, Pasay, Cavite, and Occidental Mindoro, he is the first Rotarian from Occidental Mindoro Area who was elected as Governor of District 3810.
His involvement in civic work started when he joined the Rotary Club of Lubang Island in 2003 where he served as Chairman for the Rotary Foundation, New Generation, Community Service, International Service, Fellow-ship, and Membership Development and eventually elected as Club President in 2009-2010. His active involvement in Rotary especially in the District earned him an appointment to different positions ranging from The Rotary Foundation Area Representative and Public Relations Area Representative, District Chair for Water and Sanitation and served as Senior Deputy Governor ( SDG ) for Operations for Occidental Mindoro for past three District Governors.
Among the more than 50 Club and District awards that he received, Odie is most proud of the award accorded to his Club as Best in Matching and Global Grant for Water and Sanitation. It was during his term that the first Global Grant (GG) No. 25275 called “Pulili and Cobra Water Project” amounting to Php Four Million Pesos was approved followed by another GG No. 1415300, an Eight Million Peso-project on Clean Water and Sanita-tion – Renewable Energy Distribution System that now ensures potable drinking water benefiting 8,000 villagers in both the Municipalities of Lubang and Looc in Occidental Mindoro.
An avid supporter of the Rotary Foundation, Incoming District Governor Leody “Odie” Tarriela is a regular End Polio and a Major Donor Plus Contrib-utor. He donates not only in Rotary but also to community projects in his hometown of Looc, Occidental Mindoro.
Recently, in his personal capacity, he funded a Php 2Million “Bahay Madre”, a home for the nuns of San Rafael Parish. In 2015, he spearheaded the construction of a computer building in Looc Municipal High School where he likewise donated computers and books to the school.
Born to parents Marcial Diaz Tarriela, a government official and Flocerfida Tria Flores (both deceased) on October 2, 1968, Odie is the second among four siblings. He is a responsible, caring and loving husband to former Elenita Urian, a Mass Communication Graduate at Centro Escolar University, a business woman engaged in the jewelry business. A father to their two daughters Jonaleen Joie and Chelsea Lisse Tarriela , both in Senior High at De La Salle Santiago Zobel, Ayala, Alabang.
He completed his Elementary Education at Looc Central School and Secondary Education at Looc National High School in Occidental Mindoro. He finished his college education with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Com-merce Major in Accounting at the Far Eastern University in Manila. After completing his degree, he started working as an Accountant and rose from the ranks to become an Accounting Manager and eventually as General Manager.
Blessed with an exceptional drive, an entrepreneurial trait and a strong vision, he put up his own company in the year 2000 as the Chairman and CEO of Pinesbel Manufacturing and Trading Corporation (PMTC), a company engaged in the manufacturing, trading and importation of Polyester products, PVC plastics, Woven and Non Woven fabrics and other related products, and toll manufacturing high quality and popular brands of pillows, linens and mattresses. He is the Vice President and Treasurer (Board of Director) of DAKKI Classic Concept Inc. , a company engaged in manufacturing, retailing and direct selling of character pillows, linen products, mattresses and apparels duly licensed in the Philippines by Warner Brothers, Walt Disney, Hello Kitty, Marvel Heroes and the like that is widely being sold and distributed by leading malls and department stores nationwide.
Odie is also the President/CEO of three more companies, the Triple 8 Auto Seat Cover, Inc. which is involved in the production of seat covers, car covers, car mats and automotive accessories branded as RL Design distributed by leading department stores and Ace Hardwares nationwide, JC Leonie Holdings Inc , a company engaged in Real Estate Development and warehouse and commercial space leasing and the Tarriela Agri-Aqua Ventures Corporation which handles shrimp, salt and rice farming. All of these companies employ more or less 1,000 individuals in his watch.
A firm believer of the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), he realized that the most lucrative benefit he can offer his employees is to subsidize their housing needs. He constructed several lodging houses within the vicinity of his factory for his employees and their families to have a family-work life balance. Coming from humble beginnings, Odie believes that his company is one big family and treats each one as a member of his own family.
Being successful in managing all his businesses, he became a member of Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of Philippine-Ukraine Business Council.
Believing in what Rotary International President Elect Holger Knaack said that “Rotary isn’t just a club for people to join, but rather an invitation to endless opportunities”.
